Frequently Asked Questions

Will the colors look like they do on my screen?

Close, but not identical. Every monitor and phone shows color differently, and an oil painting's surface changes with the light in a room. The photographs on this site are color-corrected against the original, and I'm happy to send additional photos or a short video of any piece in natural light before you buy — just ask.

Are the prints archival?

Yes. Giclée prints are made on archival papers and canvas with pigment inks rated for decades without fading under normal indoor display. Keep them out of direct sunlight, as you would any artwork.

What's the difference between an open edition and a limited edition print?

An open edition print is made to order with no limit on the number produced; it isn't signed or numbered. A limited edition print is one of a fixed number — say 50 — each signed and numbered in pencil by me, and the edition is never extended. Limited editions pass through my studio for signing and numbering before they ship to you, whichever lab printed them.

Do originals come with a certificate of authenticity?

Every original and limited edition print ships with a signed certificate recording the title, medium, dimensions, year, and — for prints — the edition number.

Who owns the copyright?

I do. Buying an original or a print gives you the physical piece to enjoy, display and resell; it doesn't include the right to reproduce the image, in print or online, except for personal, non-commercial sharing (a photo of it on your wall is fine). Licensing inquiries are welcome.

Do you take commissions?

No, and thank you for asking. I paint what I paint, and the work on this site is what's available. If a piece speaks to you, it's yours; if it doesn't, it wasn't meant for you, and I'd rather you find the one that is. If you'd like to know when new work goes up, drop me a note and I'll let you know.

How long until my order ships?

Originals and limited edition prints: within 3 business days from my studio. Open edition prints and merchandise: made to order and usually ship within 7 business days. You'll get a tracking number by email when it ships.

Is shipping insured?

Every original and limited edition print ships insured and tracked. If something arrives damaged, see the Shipping & Returns policy — the short version is: tell me within 7 days with photos, and you're covered.

Can I return something?

Originals and limited edition prints, yes — within 14 days of delivery, approved in advance, in original condition. Open edition prints and merchandise are made for your order and are final sale unless damaged. Full details in the Shipping & Returns policy; start a request here.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. Duties, taxes and customs fees are the buyer's responsibility and aren't included in the price shown.

How do I care for an oil painting?

Hang it away from direct sunlight, heat sources and damp. Dust with a soft dry brush; never use water or cleaning products. Oil paintings don't need glass. If a piece ever needs attention, write to me before trying anything yourself.

Can I see a piece in person?

Often, yes. I show at events around the Chicago area through the year — see Events for what's coming up. For a particular piece, write to me and we'll work something out.
